Product Development Engineer
This is an exciting opportunity to fast track your career with an innovative company developing technical products in a new business sector. The challenging role is to develop production items for use in development laboratories and on Eurofighter Typhoons for cooling electronics, using a novel cooling system.
JTL Systems is one of the UK's leading suppliers of temperature control, monitoring and refrigeration management services. The company's main business involves the development, design, manufacture and sales of electronic equipment for refrigeration control, monitoring and optimisation for commercial applications, mainly supermarkets.
JTL have an infant operation providing electronic control of refrigeration to cool defensive aids electronics on Eurofighter Typhoons when they are being ground tested. Their strategy is to build up this new business sector and they have taken on a KTP to help develop this new business area. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will take increasing responsibility for the projects within the sector during the KTP period.
You should be an Honours (2.1 or better) graduate in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline, with some industrial experience in manufacturing, engineering, aerospace or related sectors. Practical hands-on experience of developing engineering prototypes and experience of developing and testing embedded operational software systems are essential. Good general IT skills and understanding are required. You should be self-motivated, innovative, enthusiastic, able to work independently, as well as in a team. Good project management and organisational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with and influence clients, and the potential to negotiate are required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, with good ability to prepare technical reports and make technical presentations are essential.
This is a fixed term 2.5 year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) appointment in which the candidate will work full-time at the company, but will be employed by London South Bank University.
