The new multi-purpose, Quality Facilities Management (QFM) software product that is like no other.
With the help of London South Bank University's KTP programme, Service Works have developed a dynamic new product that has been quickly snatched up by companies such as Seimans and Lloyds TSB to manage assets, maintenance and service scheduling. In Order to keep up with demand and ensure optimal QFM performance, Service Works took on a KTP programme to redevelop the original QFM programme using the latest software developments as well as look into other new technologies for the company's future expansion.
Robert Crowther, first KTP Associate, has now taken on the role of Technology Manager as is responsible for a three person web development team, the infrastructure team, as well as being industrial Supervisor for the company's second KTP programme. "The KTP was good, hard work but with good results. We were seen as members of staff from the start and that sense of inclusion means I'm still here today."
The new system aimed at upgrading the QFM programme to include current technological developments such as broadband and wireless transactions and integrating these new systems into the programme structure. In addition, the programme began to analyse the potential for delivering software via the web rather than via individual installations, through the implementation of an Application Service Provider (ASP). The systems were developed but it was not until late 2005 that the software market 'caught-up' and the customers have begun benefitting from ASP.
"The KTP scheme assisted in expediting the launch of the new systems by providing additional cost effective skills and resources that have assisted us in bringing leading edge technology to markets more quickly," observed Jack Fraser, Managing Director of Service Works.
Two other Associates, Gulio Di Gio Battista and Jey Jeyasingam, joined Service Works after the successful completion of Roberts project. "The KTP has had big benefits for us and we've seen from what Rob, Gulio and Jey are producing. It's a great scheme with results for all parties," Jack mentioned.
The introduction of the KTP scheme at Service Works has led to a solid relationship being formed between company and LSBU. This successful bond has led to free flow of information between the partners as well as several successful MSc project placements from the University. This very beneficial relationship has allowed LSBU IT students to gain the best experience from their university degrees.
Professor Allen Long is an expert software engineer at the university; Allen has been with the KTP scheme since 1997 having worked with companies and Associates on over 13 programmes, including 3 projects at Service Works. "Service works is a great company. They have innovative ideas and new technologies that they can share with the university."
The KTP has had big benefits for us… it's a great scheme with results for all parties.
