A real eye-opener for the media industry

The media industry could soon be in possession of a product that will set a benchmark for business sectors worldwide.

KTP Associate and product developer Yuan Xing has been working with media company CMPi to create a software programme that will improve the way customer relations and management is handled across the board.

The commercially sensitive nature of the product disallows in-depth exposure; however Yuan is certain that the product will benefit many industries. "The product will make the industry realise how they perform in comparison with their peers, how they're perceived in the eyes of their customers and consumers. It's a best-in-class performance and industry average. The results will open their eyes," remarks Yuan. "We have developed this product and we're in the process of specifying it for the final distribution."

CMPi operates internationally across a number of industries producing magazines, exhibitions, and websites for a variety of industries including property, travel and architecture. As a benchmark within the media industry, Yuan's product is expected to have potential international applications for CMPi.

The Business Development Manager at CMPi believes the product could have immediate benefits for the company following its launch. "In the short-term it will position us to be a force to transform the marketplace, it is a product that helps companies to develop their own informants across the board," comments the BDM. "This KTP will give us a new product, and a revenue stream that we would not have got otherwise. It will give us a good understanding of what is required in the market place."

CMPi manages media services with revenues topping £170 Million last year. However, the successful 1200 strong UK base lacked the expertise to pursue a product of this design. "We're a media service provider, but we were not really in the business of benchmarking, it wouldn't have been something we could have done on our own," remarked the Business Development Manager. "We had never done anything like this before; it is good to have the support from a professional knowledge base and to work with an academic institution."

Yuan's experience with the KTP has been wholly positive, with support from LSBU Professor Shushma Patel that she describes as 'excellent'. "I have got all sorts of support from the University and I've really enjoyed the KTP modules", comments Yuan. "The mentors are really good and I have met with people from different backgrounds who are doing different projects, it's been excellent."

Yuan deems the KTP process as 'ideal' for those wanting support in new areas whilst working on management projects. "This is a great job for me. If I had gone into industry straight from University I don't think I would have had a very smooth transitional period, but with KTP I get the support from the University, the company and the government. I feel secure, there are lots of benefits." Yuan is due to start her MBA as part of the KTP Programme later this year.

The KTP will give us a new product and a revenue stream that we would not have got otherwise.
